Regarding your comment about Kennedy garnering votes due to his religous background, i.e Catholicism, I'm sure you're right. Still, the RMC--of which I am not a member--represents an entire structure of beliefs and expectations that are quantifiable in ways that race isn't. I think the point is that many African Americans would have voted for any black, based on skin color alone. It's understandable in may ways, but it's still wrong headed.
